The Butts County Chamber of Commerce has announced plans for the first Jackson Alive Family Festival on Saturday, Oct. 2. The event is intended to cover Jackson with activities and events for the entire family, which will transport festival-goers back to a simpler time.

I found myself in downtown Milford for the first time the other day and was impressed with all the cute home décor boutiques along Main Street, not to mention the sweet treats — and 400 from-scratch Finnish pasties made onsite each Wednesday — at the Milford Baking Company. Turns out this is a great weekend to visit the village in southwest Oakland County during its annual summer festival …

Ron and Deb Stallings’ craft business has grown tremendously since they purchased a bag of gourd seeds back in 2004 at an antique show in Texas. These days, the Imlay City couple are in the business of growing gourds, turning them into unique pieces of art and selling them weekly at local farm markets. They’ve renamed their business Gourdology.

NORFOLK Instead of hosting an outdoor arts, antiques and apparel market most Saturdays at Town Point Park, Festevents is cutting the schedule back to four dates at the end of each month. The Town Point Saturday Markets will be held from 10 to 3 p.m. on July 31, Aug. 28, Sept. 25 and Oct. 30 at the TowneBank Fountain Park section of the park instead of most Saturdays through October.
